I-Sole: Smart Non-Invasive Insole for Diabetic Care

The project aims to address the significant health risks of diabetic neuropathy and foot-related complications, which often lead to severe outcomes like amputations due to decreased sensation in the feet.

I-Sole is an innovative, non-invasive insole that continuously monitors glucose levels via sweat and collects plantar foot pressure data at 6 specific sites, aiding early detection and prevention.

My role in the project included:
Leading the electrical and software teams to meet project deliverables: I managed cross-functional teams to ensure the successful completion of both electrical and software components. This involved coordinating tasks, managing timelines, troubleshooting issues, and facilitating communication between team members to ensure alignment and efficient progress.

Overseeing sensor selection and circuit development: I researched and evaluated various sensor options to determine the most suitable sensors for glucose and pressure measurements. I also designed and developed the circuits required to integrate these sensors into the insole, ensuring proper functioning and accuracy of the data collected.

Developing and soldering the sweat-based glucose sensor: I worked on developing the sweat-based glucose sensor from the ground up, including selecting appropriate materials, designing the layout, and performing precise soldering (through hole and surface mount). This sensor was critical to the non-invasive nature of the insole, allowing for continuous glucose monitoring without the need for a blood sample.

Assembling and testing the final I-Sole prototype: I was responsible for integrating all components, including sensors, circuits, and power supply, into the final insole prototype. I conducted extensive testing to verify the performance, reliability, and accuracy of the prototype, identifying and addressing any issues to ensure it met the project’s objectives.
